We looked very nervous, but it’s the biggest ground and biggest home crowd in the league. Sunderland for all their dominance lacked a cutting edge - in some ways reminiscent of us pre January. I had us getting a draw at best but fortunately we still looked dangerous going forward and Hirst took his chance well. Some epic defending from the boys towards the end.

Completely agree with this.
We all know the best sides find a way to win even when they’re not at their best, today was very much that. Great start to the season against a very good Sunderland team - think they’ll do well this year. |  |

If we were bang average we would never have won. We probably had the better of the clear cut chances and some of the build up play was superior to anything Sunderland produced.
The start was nervy but that was also Sunderland really having a go, once that settled down we we were fine. Same with the last 20 or so but we defended well and should have got a third. |  | | |
