Liam Manning going well...I'm sure we'll keep one eye on him. 23:03 - Aug 31 with 2381 views | Nutkins_Return | McKenna is critical to us. Out number 1 asset in my opinion. Feels a privilege to have him. Hope he is with us many years but think he's destined for big things. Saw Manning going really well again with Oxford. He was dealt a terrible had at MK Dons after their nearly season. Think he is hugely talented as a manager. He's up there in the suitability stakes and with some Town history for the future. Perhaps we'll be champions League when the need arrives ;) - but one to keep an eye on Mr Ashton. Would like to see him take Oxford up

Good luck to him with Oxford. Not sure if he was dealt a bad hand or his lack of experience caught up with him. He took over a settled side with an ingrained style of play. You could argue he was handed a very good hand too soon. On the other hand, the experience at MK where he was sacked could be part of his education.

MK sold their best players out from underneath Manning’s arse rather than build on a very good season.

Well in many cases you have to sell. And the trick is to replace those players. Ie Mannings predecessor sold scott Fraser, and not only replaced him, but improved upon him. Seems like a narrative's being written about Manning to protect him and his reputation. Maybe in the long run Manning will be a better manager for the odd failure and making mistakes. This is my worry about McKenna. So many people are so enamored with McKenna as a prophet that they don't think he can do no wrong. He's still a young manager learning his trade. He might be a better manager in a year's time from hitting a few bumps and having a few f@ck ups and coming through it.

I may not have followed his progress or listened to his interview so intently but to those whose job it is to keep an eye on up coming managers then yes I think he would still stick out. But the caveat is he's one to keep an eye on. He was dealt a shocker at MK (always the risk with their strategy as a club but to fire him for what happened certainly didn't help them). Just following the turnaround of Oxford has been very impressive (so far). One to keep and eye on as I say. We've stepped up in time works currently well above him. But if he for example takes Oxford up a d we're looking in a year or two and in the champ and he has an impressive body of work over these two years .. Pure speculation etc. The Ipswich connection may be beneficial

I think very few people think McKenna 'can do no wrong'. He's already made some mistakes. What's key is they are generally minor (or even calculated risks) and he always seems to recognise, understand, learn and progress. All managers make some mistakes all the time, even ina granular game by game basis etc. Under McKenna the trajectory has been consistent. Really all you can ask.
