Jason Dozzell, lifes a pitch ten: great guest, i've got so much love for Jason, 11:05 - Sep 22 with 3149 views | Lion | like Kieron Dyer, an Ipswich boy through and through, grew up within a stones throw from the ground and like Kieron Dyer, like me and I suspect lots of you honed his football skills on the rec opposite the north stand which is now the kids playground. I was there the day he made his debut as a schoolboy myself with my Dad and I remember reading my Dads paper the East Anglian Daily Times the next day or so showing him going to Chantry High School as normal. I remember being a little bit older and waiting for halfway through the second half as well to get in for free at the matches but I later found out you could get there at about 1pm, say Stadia Catering then hide in the toilets for an hour for the crowds to get in the ground before coming out! A little bit later than that I found that if you hung about at the end of the game , you could pick up a small fortune in coins that the fans had been chucking at each other all game over the top of the metal fencing that divided the home and away fans in the north stand when it was in 3 sections. And, a little bit later than that, I found out that if you went to the station once all the away fans were on their trains waiting to depart, that with a few hand gestures they would throw you some more coins, oh, those really were the days. Anyway i am digressing, my point is that Jason really was a little street urchin just like us, an Ipswich boy through and through, he was one of us but what we dreamt about came true for him, it really is Roy of the Rovers stuff. And as some of you will know, Tony was some player too by the way, but I didn't know he was trying to have it with Vinny Jones for all those years ;0) I reckon Vinny was lucky the security split them up. Looking forward to Jason's book! [Post edited 22 Sep 2023 11:17]

Outrageous and oh so typical of that bunch. Nice to hear the follow up to it. Jason’s hatred of Norwich made me laugh. He looked very languid but appearances can be deceptive. He was a damn fine footballer. Lot of good memories including his goal and celebration on a Monday night at Norwich in 1992. Edit: Butcher’s story of accidentally trampling all over Kevin Keegan made me laugh too. Clearly not best mates! [Post edited 22 Sep 2023 12:21]

He was silky wasn't he, him and 'kiwomya my lord' were a great partnership. And we were damn unlucky in the replay at Liverpool, Dozzy was excellent that night and in my opinion one of his best in a town shirt.

He was. I was at the game (and the windy home game where Wark nearly broke the bar with that header) and disappointing though the result was, it was then that I knew we’d get promoted and more importantly be able to compete. Jason that night was as good as anybody.

I didn't know Dale Gordon was a town fan, i thought he was a great yarmouth boy. Its Ruel, who's a lovely fella tbf, that I can never get my head around playing for the scummers...

Dale Gordon, Daryl Sutch, Ruel Fox were all Town fans growing up. I am also reasonably good friends with one of Darren Eadies cousins, and he and his father are Ipswich supporters, based in Essex. Liam Gibbs supposedly supported Ipswich....

Im afraid Liam Gibbs is dead to me, not even going to talk about him, Daryl Sutch was very close to the Norfolk border in beccles so see how that could happen, but Foxy is an Ipswich boy, just can't get my head around how he ended up at the scummers, if I see him at Whitton i'm going to ask him!

Louie Donowa as well - I think he was another Whitton lad who was a Town fan and went the wrong end of the A140.

I imagine he's going to get booed with every touch come the derby. Do his family still support Town? Could be like John Terrys family when Chelski played the Spam!

Yeah, he'll get plenty of stick I reckon, its unforgiveable ( although i reckon he got a much better salary going to them ) He's a bury st edmunds lad, I'm sure his family will support him whoever he plays for but doubt they will change their allegiance to Norwich if they are town fans, you just don't do that, unless you are Delia.....

don't think it happened many times but remember him when he still had a bit of pace left and kiwomya up front v leicester at filbert street. Think it was a 1-0 win and he scored but might be wrong

His brother still goes to Spurs regularly. It's a weird one, but Woolfie supports Manure, so some kids can't be helped!
