Bundesliga 2 stadiums have an average capacity larger than those of The Bundesliga. The second division has 8 stadiums > 40,000 where the first division only has 7. In England The Stadium of Light is the only real top class stadium outside of The Premier League.

Elland Road is a bit of a dump. Pride Park is similar to The Riverside. Nice stadiums but both sub 35k.

Something like 10 of the 12 biggest sports stadia in the world are US college football stadia.

A few years ago I went to a secondary school in Chicago and their football stadium was bigger than Portman Road.

The difference is that they are packed for every game which are huge local events. I guess that’s the dream for all the cowboys getting involved in English football.

A nice stadium does not have to be big. The New York Stadium in Rotherham is a great little stadium and cost "only" £20 million and is perfect for a club of their size.. The most ridiculous stadium in England is the 27000 capacity Darlington Arena. It's nice enough but what were they thinking building a stadium for a team that got any average attendance of 3000. They also did not check the small print in the planning permission which restricted the capacity to 12000. It bankrupted the club. Stadium MK comes a close second.
