Hutchinson's goals last season 19:14 - Sep 21 with 1540 viewsGlasgowBlue

Would I be correct in saying that most of them came from him playing wide and cutting in, rather than from playing just behind the striker?

He seemed to have far more joy when Chaplin came on and he went out wide, replacing Burns. Seen him desperately trying to get in a shooting position from being a number ten but ultimately running into a dead end.

I've said, since he's joined, playing the right really suits him....personally I feel it's his best position.

That CAM role may well end up being his preferred position but right now....coming in off the right is his best.

I think that experienced Premier League central defenders are a little too clever for him to find the space to get many great shots away, whereas cutting in from the wide areas benefits his game.

He'll naturally become a great number ten in the future but I don't think he has the game time and experience to play that position at the moment.

Yes. I think that brings more balance to the team and would also play to Szmodics strengths.

A Burns/Ogbene gives our formation far more balance. Unless you want to play a marauding right full back to provide the width but don't think we can afford to do that at this level. Notable that Johnson came on when Omari went to the right (and was him bursting forwards that won us the inital free kick that started the pressure).

Omari had plenty of good, impactful games centrally last season, with Burns/Jackson on the right. Millwall, Hull, Coventry, Huddersfield, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton spring to mind. Thinking about it, a good chunk of his goals came in the 10, albeit drifting more to the right.

Personally I think for us to begin to really push forward with this lineup. It needs to be clarke. Szcmodics. Hutchinson

Let defenders worry about clarke which will then give dacis more room
Let szmodics be at his best behind the striker and when delap drops szmodics is in behind like he did all of last season
Hutchinson imo is only really a threat from the flanks. Yes he does an OK job in the middle but I just feel he is more dangerous as you say from the right.

Let this lot have their fun their bring on the finishers to put balls down the flanks to get them to run onto it.

a niche perspective

Yep, I think Omari had his best games centrally last season and where he was played during the run-in. At the start he was used quite sparingly to finish games for Burns on the right, and then played there when Burns was injured.

I thought Burns started the match today really brightly and he does give us that balance on the right. Not sure we need to lose that to get Szmodics centrally and Omari out right.
