Run Towards Adversity, In McKenna We Trust - reduce errors increase performance 13:24 - Oct 21 with 1334 views | unstableblue | As Alan Lee states Saturday we lost because of player performance - I think he thought around 8 were having an off day (especially our central midfield), AND that Everton have developed a higher quality squad over many seasons of investment (although Everton fans questioning that stating that they’re now a selling club - but you’ve still got Pickford, Dacoure, McNeill, Calvert Lewin, Mykelenko etc). Some gloom is descending on the fan base and Portman Road, a flat atmosphere on Saturday, in part due to player performance not sparking the terraces and in part due to fan mood. Following two poor performances, mounting injuries, and unforced errors being punished concerns about the season are mounting and the squad quality gap. We need to follow the mission statement now and Run Towards this Adversity, we need McKenna and his coaching team to lift the spirits and energy and design a game plan to stop the rot away at Brentford and get real joy against Leicester. Get that much needed win and lift. We’re still outside the bottom 3, in the 4 Palace and Wolves have superior squads, but are close to managerial change which can backfire. Saints in real trouble. Cajuste, Axel and Greaves will get fit soon. I think we need to remind the players and fans of how well we did I when player performance was all in 7+ range, against better teams than Everton in Fulham and Villa - where we had spells of real threat. The team is also young and still developing, they will learn and improve. And we just have to reduce the unforced errors, Burns has had a horror show on Saturday. But we need to move on. And crucially Phillips needs to clear the head and show again the promise we’ve seen. Important we don’t let the heads drop and we back the manager, players and project.

Run Towards Adversity, In McKenna We Trust - reduce errors increase performance on 13:30 - Oct 21 with 1274 views | FromReuserWithLove | Amen. Portman Road is a fabulous old stadium where the fans are right on top of the pitch. When the going is good and we're full of hope the atmosphere is electric and a real cauldron. However we are crap, when the going is tough. We give up to easily. We should be making PR a horrible place to come for away fans but with their extended away end, it feels like a great day out for them right now. "Can they do it on a cold toosdee night in Ipswich?" Run Towards Adversity, In McKenna We Trust - reduce errors increase performance on 13:35 - Oct 21 with 1229 views | TheBoyBlue | Absolutely spot on. We have shown we have the ability to compete in this division, at least to the main aim of staying up. If we played against West Ham and Everton like we did against Liverpool and Villa then I believe we would have at least one win to our name, if not two. Also, no one should underestimate how much confidence that win could give the players.

I’m having to recalibrate what ‘good’ looks like this season. Although we obviously need to do better. The gap between us and Everton is already the largest between adjacent clubs in the table. Bottom four will start getting cut adrift if we don’t pick up a win or two soon. We can’t rely on palace, wolves and S’ton to keep losing.

Run Towards Adversity, In McKenna We Trust - reduce errors increase performance on 14:42 - Oct 21 with 1049 views | Marshalls_Mullet | I hope you are right. I'd be interested to see how flexible McKenna is in his approach, the same was said of Burnley last season. Its a similar story. Kompany replaced the majority of the promotion winning side, and was inflexible in his strategy. (although that worked out pretty well on a personal level for him!). In terms of Running Towards Adversity and raising team spirit; I'm not sure we have the team spirit / cohesion that we have previously had (I hope I'm wrong). I'm not saying its dropped through the floor, but the combination of all the personnel changes and McKenna wanting to leave after the promotion party could cause a drop off in team spirit and trust, even if that's just by 5-10%.... and this level is all about fine margins. Not a criticism, just an observation. Here's hoping for that win!! 🤞🤞 [Post edited 21 Oct 2024 14:44]

Run Towards Adversity, In McKenna We Trust - reduce errors increase performance on 15:14 - Oct 21 with 885 views | TractorClarke | The Everton game was by far one of the worst home performances in recent seasons, we just didnt turn up for whatever reason. Part of this is loosing some one like Axel who has worked himself into a really important player spot, he manages that rb role really well and Johnson seems to struggle with it, and O'shea didnt inspire as a fill in. I dont like knocking players really, but it has to be said they can all perform miles better than they have in the last two games and its a real shame. We are in this league on merit, we have earned it and its been great getting here, it feels like now we are wasting it. I get the skill gap is quite big between the champ and the prem and there is going to be an adjustment period, and we have also signed 12 new players, but where has the fight been recently? In the Everton game alone i witnessed Omari and Phillips get the ball taken away from them only for them to slump there shoulders, sigh and plod back towards the ball, they should be on their bike chasing after it, Delap does even from the front, which is why he has shown already what a good player we have. He does not care about respecting a prem player, he wants that ball and he wants to get to the goal for a chance, more players need to be like him. I dont mind a mistake, i dont even mind loosing, as long as the fight and the performance is there, the will and desire to win, i just havent seen that last two games. We spent more time passing side ways between the back line than we ever did getting it forward, Everton just were not going to be drawn out for the ball, and why would they, 2-0 up they dont have to especially as they have already squandered a 2 goal lead more than once this season. I want to see us quick passing and getting forward quickly as we can and have done in the past, Everton did, when they got the ball from our corner they would be at the other end near or in our box in a matter of seconds. I have also seen a lot about Burns, i appreciate he, along with the rest, was not very good against Everton, there is also a narrative he isnt cut out for the prem, but i dont think thats entirely fair. The stats are 22 touches and less passes the entire game, or for as long as he was on the pitch, but bloody hell the amount of times i saw him in acres of space shouting for the ball but no one getting it to him, im not sure what more he could do. The times he had the ball he didnt really achieve much, thats fair, but the times Omari had it and waited to long to finally give it to him, or a cross field pass when he is in space didnt ever happen, and if he doesnt get the ball he cant do much else other than be available, which he was.....a lot! Many have said it already, i honestly think we are not playing some players in their best position, or at least a position they look like they can make something happen. Case in point i think Omari, like others, is far better out on the right, i would leave clarke on left as he is tricky, and play smzodics as the 10 behind Delap. Not saying this would solve all of our issues but i do think we have possibly signed too many players and we are now trying to fit people in to spots that dont fully suit. None of us are Mckenna and he will have vastly more detail, experience, know how etc than all of us, but i think its clear the way we are setting up at the minute isnt working. All these stupid international breaks are not helping of course, but we cant keep trying the same things and expecting different results. I am concerned if i am being honest after Saturday, i dont think we have any right to expect a win against anyone in this league, but having said that we are good enough to beat Everton, especially at home, and to see such a poor showing is disappointing.
