Original quote was £1100 but he added in home insurance for his flat which was £80 and got the whole lot for £800 on a combined policy. This was in Newcastle where premiums are pretty high. He added both me and my wife as named drivers which makes a difference. No black box. After one year of no claims he is now 22 and the premium has just renewed for £670 for the lot.
He had been a named driver on a little VW Up in my name for 3 years which he had driven when home from uni in holidays, but he had no no claims at all. I think maybe once they turn 21 insurance gets a bit cheaper so maybe it will for your daughter? |  | | |

Joined the discussion to say similar - my nephew (19) has only just passed his driving test; adding his dad as a named driver on the insurance made it about £800 cheaper per year... |  |

Fwiw, heard a R4 'You & Yours' phone-in on this about 2 months ago. A few peoples' black boxes hadn't been working correctly - or at all - & they were subsequently quoted mega prices. Some found it better & cheaper to just ditch the black box option. |  |

Final results is worse than it started! Gone with Adrian Flux but now with her Leeds post code and having to register for business use as she will be on placement at more than one location, no black box it has gone up to £1,380. Christmas just got cancelled. Bah humbug. | |
