One thing I noticed last night 08:35 - Dec 31 with 796 views | Vic | We seemed to be happy to do a lot more ‘row z’ clearances. I’m not critical of the ‘pass your way out of trouble’ idea, but having been brought up with the Big Al philosophy of when in doubt aim for the top of the east stand I was more than happy to see a number of well calculated big clearances tonight.

One thing I noticed last night on 09:48 - Dec 31 with 606 views | RobTheMonk | A row z clearance, when done at the right time, can be as good as an excellent tackle in getting the fans energy up.
One thing I noticed last night on 10:31 - Dec 31 with 541 views | ibbleobble | It makes sense for where we’re at. We’re really well organised and teams are struggling to break us down. If everyone does their jobs, we’re very resilient.
One thing I noticed last night on 10:39 - Dec 31 with 509 views | tonybied | There's nothing wrong with either method. Ideally, a mixture of the 2 is best, as neither play suits all situations. Last season, we pretty much played out of the back exclusively, but this season, breaking the press is so much harder than it was last year. We need to use that tatic a bit more sparingly this year, but pumping it up the field/out of play can also mean the opposition keeps coming back at you wave after wave.
One thing I noticed last night on 10:46 - Dec 31 with 468 views | DBaldy | While I don't disagree that it's a useful tactic, in the multi-ball era a row Z clearance doesn't buy you as much time as it should. I'm a fan of a low clearance slammed into the advertising boards so that the ball bounces back onto the pitch, although obviously much harder to execute than a row Z wallop.
