Lets face it the rule is ridiculous and it should at least merit a penalty, and probably a red card.
He stopped an obvious goal through "foul play" and all they got out of it was an indirect free kick that's very difficult to score from. |  |

Thought at the time that should probably be a red card as it's not really any different from a defender deliberately sticking his arm out to block a shot on the line. |  |

Agreed, it's handball effectively. Just as it's not allowed outside the area. An indirect free kick from that position is probably on a par with a corner for the potential of scoring. A penalty or red card should be given. |  | | |
