We still live in a world where guys don't want to admit mental health or anything wrong. Then get to extreme circumstances unfortunately.

What’s saddest of all is that he must have been in a place where this behaviour, and the fallout pushed him over.

Regardless of the horrible thing he did, the fact he wasn’t able to be saved shows how difficult this stuff is.

I remember hearing about this at the time. His initial behaviour shows he didn’t have much in the way of emotional intelligence. I wonder if that makes you more susceptible to not being able to deal with the consequences - probably I’d have thought. It is sad that people like this don’t get more help upfront to keep them on the right track/grounded, etc. I’m not sure where that would come from; family and friends probably.

One suspects alcohol and being egged on as part of a group may have led to the initial behaviour. Then, when sober, couldn't face the consequences, which maybe included losing a large part of his social and emotional life in being banned from football.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Based on purely on my mental health problems down the years and not knowing the individual; he must have been in a pretty bad way from a mental wellbeing aspect to reach the conclusion that he felt the only way forward for him was to take his own life, that is a dreadful place to be.

I have been in that place; without the support of my wife and family would probably not be here today, but that is a story for a different day.

Now, on the flip side what he did was not, and will never be, acceptable behaviour in modern society and as such there was going to be consequence.

The tragedy in all of this is that he obviously had no-one he felt he could speak to and ask for help - that is what fills me with sadness from this.
