What facts have you got about Hackney?? 11:04 - Aug 2 with 358 viewsKeno

Diane Abbot was the MP there

Got its name in Roman times after a gladiator Vinicus Jonesisus gained a reputation for high tackles on his opponents. Bolloxgrabchester was a bit to much of mouthful

Hackney Museum has local historical items going back over 200,000 years, with the earliest one featuring primitive writing roughly translated as 'Has he signed for Ipswich yet'

What else you got then......

The term Hackney Carriage has nothing to do with the Hackney area. The word is likely derived from hacquenée, the French term for a general-purpose horse that was once used to pull the carriages.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Exactly the same derivation as cocquenée, the French term for a jolly little chap who used to eat 'jellee dilse' and sing "Knees up Muvva Brahn".

I believe Hackney Marshes have the most football pitches in London, maybe the country. The area is certainly vast but I haven't been there for around 30 years.
