I don't have any insider knowledge, it's just a feeling.
If Wes Burns is due back in October, he's going to need games,. He may also be thinking it's time for a fresh challenge as did many of the players that left this summer.
It pains me to say it about my dad's favourite player but I have real doubts we'll see the same player we did in league one and the championship. I hope I'm wrong about this, but I have doubts. |  |

Yes. In his view. But not a contract we felt we could offer, same with Burgess.
This notion we should just offer longer contracts because they ask is non-sensical, contracts are offered based on what we believe is best for the club, not the player, just because they are part of the furniture. | |

Morsy will be 34 next week, and was offered a contract on about £100k per week in a country where last I checked the personal income tax rate is 0%.
Absolutely loved the fella, but clearly in the best interests of the club as well as the player that he moved on... |  |

Ordinarily I’d agree with you but for someone as important as Morsy, it may have been worth pushing the boat out.
I do wonder with the amount of departures we eventually had, we would have done more to keep both Morsy and Burgess in hindsight. | | | |

I think it's worth pointing out that most of those who wanted to leave did so because they weren't getting games. Some of them (rightly in my opinion) probably felt they'd been replaced with someone not any better than themselves. | | | |

Push the boat out to the tune of 100k a week which is what he was ultimately offered in Kuwait?
So let's think about this. We give hime a 3 year rather than a 2 year, he's 37 at the end of it and is hardly playing for the last two years as a result of us being immediately promoted and has missed out on one final massive payday in the Middle East.
Burgess gets a 3 year instead of a 2 year, hardly plays following promotion, (lets not forget Burgess only got out of L1 with us), he loses his Australia place as a result, misses out on the World Cup
How does any of that help them or us? | |

Agreed, also we have to understand that despite our amazing promotion, our backline (Wolfie and Cam) conceded a considerable amount of goals compared to others in that top 6. We just always managed to grab a late goal or outscore our opponents, it wasn't built on a solidified defence. |  |

Morsy offered a lot to us both on and off the pitch and in a year where so much change has occurred, it may have been beneficial for the club to pay a bit more (which was achievable) to keep him. |
The issue is where that on/off balance lay. If tipping more towards the latter, then unless Morsy wanted to retire and join the staff (which he evidently didn't - and no reason to yet), the club had a problem with affording to keep him on, taking up a squad space and getting in the way of integrating a replacement in the role. Not to mention having to juggle the captaincy position or split it between "club" and "on field".
It's a tricky one and I agree that Morsy still had a lot to offer ITFC. For me, it is rather like the position of Alun Wynn Jones in the Welsh rugby team. Still a skilful and determined player, also a great leader, but facing an increasing physical battle to continue playing at the top level. |  |

Yeah they obviously viewed it as not worth it in the end but I do wonder whether given the choice now, they would have kept him? This squad with Morsy in for one of Taylor, Humphreys or the RBs would have been stronger all round.
His experience for games like Birmingham away may have made the difference. All ifs and buts of course. | | | |
