Pedersen: I Have the Biggest Respect For How Ipswich Has Been Rebuilt 15th Mar 2026 00:27
Sheffield Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen felt his players should be proud to have competed as long as they did against a side as strong as Town during their 2-0 defeat at Hillsborough and says he plans to talk to Blues manager Kieran McKenna to sound him out on what the Owls can learn from Town as administration-hit, League One-bound Wednesday look to rebuild. 21

Well Henrik, I have respect for what you and your team are doing in the face of extremely difficult circumstances, and also respect for the Wednesday faithful who are still fully backing their team. No one is chucking games or giving up when it would be all to easy to do so. I hope you get some decent owners and I also hope they give you the chance to show what you can do with a proper squad. Not so very long ago it could have been us in a not too disimilar position. As you pointed out things can turn round. Best of luck for the future.

Their constant time wasting and amateur dramatics yesterday suggests Mr Pedersen has no respect for McKenna and ITFC.

I disagree. Ugly as it was to watch, SheffW were using what tools they had available in the face of a much more powerful opponent. Trying to match Ipswich in a pure footballing manner would have seen a far bigger defeat. That wouldn't have been respect, it would have been lunacy.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

That's my problem with modern football I guess. Cheating is now seen as an acceptable tactic.

That, unfortunately, is a function of the increasing disparity between the haves and the have-nots.

Tho SheffW are in a particularly bad position, having (thanks to Chansiri) faced transfer embargoes and lost many of their senior players through failing to pay wages or certainty of relegation.

If you think this is a "modern football" thing, I have some archives to show you.

Footballers have always cheated - in the past defenders deliberately tried to kick skilful players out of the game. But for some strange reason that doesn’t count.
