Millwall picked up 13 points Boro picked up 10 points We remain 3rd, superior goal difference, 2 points off Boro in second with a game in hand and we play them at home. Boro and Millwall play each other next (Good Friday), we have Brum next at home (Easter Monday), who’ve lost last 4 away. Millwall will have Norwich at home, Boro away at Swansea. McKenna has a fortnight on the training pitch. We’ll have burns, Kipre and Nunez back. Philogene will be fully fit. Is it as doom and gloom as people think? Including myself as I really thought at half time Saturday that we were excellent, would go on and win, win over the home crowd and push clear. But it’s been steady, we need to further improve. Nevertheless, a good advert for the Championship. I feel the thing that disappoints me is we’ve spent millions on players in our squad and yet a side that has a budget in the bottom 6 puts us on an equal footing. There’s no doubt we are still in with a good shout of finishing in the top 2, although Coventry look like they have the title all sewn up. There will still be plenty of twists and turns with those promotion chasing teams before the end of the season. I’m ‘hoping’ it will go our way, without being 100% convinced it will.

It's not just us, Millwall are doing it to everybody (which is why they are top four). Hull similarly, despite transfer restrictions. Spending power makes some difference in the Champ, but not to the same degree as in the Prem, where genuinely world-class players are available to the richest. Really good Champ players, such as Hayden Hackney, are as likely to be on their way up through the ranks or local boys rather than hired from above and thus not a product of club wealth. Those who are really a step above (or consider themselves so), stay in the Prem, even if their team is relegated (e.g. Delap, Hutchinson), or won't move from there however much money is offered. Organisation is perhaps a bigger factor. Alex Neil has a history of success using tough and well-organised teams. He can spot weaknesses and restructure on the fly to exploit them when things aren't working. McKenna can do that, too, but as a (primarily defensive) tactic, the low block - our Achilles heel - has fewer weaknesses than a more open style.

We are by no means a 1 man team but the team does not function without him in the 10. Mehmeti is a good player. He does not work in the 10. Akpom does not work in the 10. It is not a great look on our recruitment that a guy we didn't even sign to play the 10 is the glue that hold us together but that is where we are. If we can have him fully for this final block I will feel a lot better. Same for Wes Burns. What a miss. [Post edited 23 Mar 10:18]

It's going to be a tough old run in and while our form is decent there's legitimate frustration that we don't have more points on the board to give us some wiggle room during the run in. Some of that is down to pretty terrible refereeing but it's also true that we've only turned up for 45 minutes in too many of our recent games, certainly our three draws were single half performances. With the quality and depth we have that's disappointing. So yes, in many ways we remain in a pretty good place but it could and probably should be an even better place.

I don't think he even needs to be in the 10, just in the team. His passing range and vision are hugely important. For what it's worth, I thought McAteer had a good game on Saturday. He put a lot of decent crosses in, just nobody getting on the end of them. Just wish he'd charge into the box a bit more like Burns does.

Mehmeti has been a bit off it the last few games but to say he doesn't work as a 10 is wide of the mark. After his early performances there some people were commenting that he was showing what we've missed by having Nunez in the role because of the goal threat he carries from open play and his ability to carry the ball. I do rate what Nunez brings to the role and think we're better overall with him in the team but Mehmeti is also a strong option and I don't think he's been the reason we've not got over the line in a few recent games.

He is not THE reason but I don't like his skillset in the 10 personally. He doesn't look after the ball enough and he is a bit too tunnel vision at time. I don't blame him for that because that is the player he is and that is what makes him a really good player but it just isn't what we need from that role specifically. With Nunez unavailable he is the next best option by far though.

He was alright. Certainly one of his better performances. Much prefer him out there to Egeli.

Yep that’s the worry, we’ve been decent but have a very tough run in with Soton and Norwich the very hard on paper.
