The fantasyland, already ruled himself out, pick, for me is Thomas Frank. I think we need a statement type hire rather than one of the merry-go-rounders like Rob Edwards. I know this is probably unrealistic, but it would be great if Ipswich did appoint a top-manager rather than a total unknown or one of the usuals.

Gary O'Neil seems to be the likely one at the moment, given his Premier League experience. and is currently doing okay abroad. But if it started going the way of Wolves I doubt many will back the project in the same way McKenna was backed. I have seen some praise him and think he would be a good appointment, but I just think we might be playing with fire, with that one. Aside from the money, why would he leave the comfort of Strasbourg for another relegation fight here? Unless we offered him a long-term project and budget that would tempt him to take that gamble.

Knutsen, Rosenoir and Frank, effectively not being available leaves what appears to be slim pickings and some very underwhelming choices as to who leads this club next season. Let’s hope for someone inspiring to crop up and get us excited for the new season.

Has O’Neil ruled himself out?

Give it 24 hours it seems ha! I just don't see him leaving a safe job to take a gamble on us.

Frank would be excellent, even if I find him quite annoying. I wonder if Ashton has been trying to persuade Brendan Rogers to return to the PL; a massive long shot, but they’ve got history (although I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing). Either of those would be superb, but yes probably unrealistic.

Just said on another thread, his odds seem to have shortened (take with a pinch of salt) but now at 6-1 (same as BBM)

Frank would be a coup, I'd love us to get him. Did well in Denmark, did really well to go from assistant to manager at Brentford and get them up and build what they've got now. Took over from Dean Smith and kicked them on multiple levels. I think he could bring experience in terms of the scouting set up as well. Obviously his job was on the football side but they go hand in hand, and he's seen what good looks like in an environment like Benham's moneyball Brentford. The journey Brentford went on under him is exactly what we're going to want to emulate. Would command the respect of the players.

Seems a smart guy as well, comes across well, empathetic. I think he'd be a good follow on from McKenna in that respect. Perhaps a bit of a snake how he went about leaving Brentford, whoring himself out like he did, but I'll turn a blind eye to that and the Spurs car crash.

He might well see a move to Town as below him, but I'd like to think we'll ask the question.

Is he doing a good job abroad? I thought they'd lost a couple of crucial games which resulted in him taking swipes at the owners for their transfer business.
