Curious, a link and showreel from Túrkiye about a Belgian 21 year old who plays for Ligue deux St Etienne. Cost nine million euros a couple of years ago and still has two years to run on his current contract...

SPECULATIVE.

Name has come up a few times as 'one to watch' wouldn't rule it out.

I was encouraged when I first heard him linked with us, as he ticks a number of boxes. Again we'd be looking for a Hirst like adjustment to PL football from a young forward, but there's certainly a good footballer in there.
We'll still need to sign another centre forward/striker, even if we do get him, but this would be a good start.

Poll: If we go up, which new striker would you like us to sign?

Plot thickens.

"Knocked out in the Ligue 1 promotion playoffs, AS Saint-Étienne will be unable to retain its best players. Among them, Belgian striker Lucas Stassin is attracting plenty of interest and suggests a big sale for the club.

This time, AS Saint-Étienne finds itself short of options. Les Verts will struggle to keep their best players, who were held back last summer. This includes, of course, Georgian Zuriko Davitashvili and Lucas Stassin, who must still regret his failed transfer. It's difficult for the Belgian international (1 cap) not to link his omission from the 2026 World Cup squad to his season in Ligue 2. Suffice it to say, the former Westerlo player can't imagine wasting any more time in his career.

Stassin should command a hefty transfer fee. His club's management understands this well and will no longer try to prevent his transfer to one of his many suitors. This week, the regional newspaper Le Progrès announced Brentford's renewed interest in Lucas Stassin. Belgian media also reported that the Saint-Étienne striker is attracting interest from Braga and, especially, FC Porto, who have already begun discussions. But that's not all. The striker, under contract until 2028, has a new admirer in England, as Jeune Footeux revealed that Ipswich Town has made an approach.

The newly promoted English club, which is preparing to appoint Strasbourg coach Gary O'Neil as manager, has inquired about Lucas Stassin's situation. None of the clubs mentioned have reached an agreement, either with the player's representatives or AS Saint-Étienne. It is currently difficult to predict which of them will make the decisive move. But one thing is certain: the Saint-Étienne management can consider a significant sale, resulting in a profit for the striker who was bought for €10 million in August 2024, and whose value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €15 million."
