Any updates on the Cobbold Stand conundrum? 15:36 - Aug 23 with 1452 views

Was just reading a BBC article that Wrexham’s new stand (smaller than whatever the new Cobbold will be) likely won’t be ready for this season. So that’s at least two full seasons with a three-sided ground (under construction) for them.

Does the new work in fanzone/West area allow any room to put on an extra tier? Any construction types know if knocking down half the Cobbold to leave an operational few blocks of seats (for away fans) is doable while working on the new stand?

I may be wrong but I seem to recall someone suggested we could build the a stand over the top of the current Cobbold Stand in a way that meant minimum disruption with the lower part then being removed and replaced after most of the framework was in place.

Assume a mega stand that side with a new reception as well as additional facilities and new changing rooms etc would be long term plan there.

Going to be needed soon to kick on. Throwing money away doing that stand up, which it badly needs now.

Can see away fans moved into the Cobbold side of Churchmans in time and then home fans able to enjoy the best of new facilities in the new stand.

Yeah it’s truly sunk costs with these small upgrades

I think Ashton said they’d have to be some reduced capacity, which is going to be the tough part. If we stay up this year, I’d expect the plans to an accelerate.

Early 2030s for I’d imagine for it to be completely done. Summer of 2028 start on the west stand first maybe, not sure.

I’m fairly certain I read that they’ll develop the West Stand first and add 4,000 extra seats in that to accommodate the displaced Cobbold residents.

Not quite sure how you put an extra 4,000 seats in that, it would make it into an enormous stand. Once that’s done, the Cobbold would be completely demolished and a new main stand will be build from scratch in its place.

I do remember years ago when the end stands were being developed, the plan was to curve the Alf Ramsey stand round to make one massive stand that goes round two sides of the pitch. Those plans fell by the wayside when we went into administration though.

I took steps to move my seats elsewhere to is season as I suspect, at some point, I may have to move against my will and not have a selection to make.

I had some pretty nice seats in block C, but I’m happy with my new seats on SAR and they are so much cheaper!

It maybe "easier" but I just think you are baking in alot of the problems with the old stand into the new one doing that.

You want as clean a start as possible imo, so what if it takes longer because the stand will be around for 50 years maybe, like the south/north are 25 years old now and no ones remotely thinking theyre due a refresh. So think really long term not just short termism

So do you really want the lower cobbold setup as it is now for another 50+ years.
