I don't think Birmingham will finish as low as that. I just think we've played them at a good time. By the end of August they'll have signed 4-5 more players and be fairly strong. But we will also improve once some of these injuries clear up.

Just gutted about Dozzell - was going to shine this season

Brum will be okay. Arry will bring in some famous old people. They'll be mid table I reckon. Unless he does a Jewell. Which could be fackin hilarious.

We looked very lightweight in the first half. It was however pleasing in hindsight of the victory that we tried to play on the deck, even for a frustrating first twenty five minutes where the movement in the middle didn't see us look particularly threatening. But we rode our luck a bit and Brum failed to really trouble us except the odd chance.

Before Andre's injury (ffs... hope he's okay... for him and us) he was growing into the game. Two moments where his vision caught my breath. He's the real deal and I pray he gets a chance again this season to continue his development.

Second half we were more than okay. The odd misplaced pass but who doesn't? We played well. Nothing more than that, we aren't world beaters obviously. But we did play well, and against a team physically in a different league. We out-battled them.

Downes is an enormous positive. As were Ward and Garner's movement.

We have Didz, a raw talented young wide/forward, and two experienced central midfielders coming back. Add Rowe too. There's competition at the back, including a couple of players in Kenlock and Webster who are more than decent footballers in those positions. If we can add one more striker we can and should feel just a little smidge of optimism.

Temper any optimism with the fact it's one game at the beginning of the season. Of course. I'm not naive and I don't wear blue-tinted specs. If anything I'm naturally pessimistic when it comes to sport. I change game by game sometimes, tis the nature of the only half clued up footie fan (if that!).

But honestly, what's the point of supporting a club if you still say after an opening day victory that Mick/Evans/whatever is sh1te and over the season this will show? This bit is not aimed at you Texters.

Agree. Pleasantly surprised, we looked a really balanced and threatening team in the 2nd half. That Sears miss though. Wow. Probably not unfair to call him naturally right footed.......

I know that was then, but it could be again..

all it takes is a win and I'm happy.

first half, if we were play villa etc, we'd be 1/2 down, but fair play to mick and the players, they come out and dominated second half
