Assume you didn’t actually read it then. He wrote more about Saudi Arabia and Yemen than any of that. Imagine that, being against rogue states murdering journalists and starving children with our full support? “To consider that, in a world that has pub lunches, wristwatches, golden retrievers, the novels of Donna Tartt, the music of Kendrick Lamar, flumes and The Amazing Spider-Man, there is still a plight where you starve to death, as a child, for no reason. I mean, there is a reason, that I suppose has somehow made itself too obvious to mention. The reason is that some people are addicted to money and power, many of them pathologically so, and we let them do what they like. In our name, and with our taxes, we let them kill who they like in the service of their bored, baroque perversity, because we don’t care enough to stop them. We cannot seem to rouse ourselves, even as they move to turn the world into a consuming flame. We are running out of time to save the children of Yemen, and ourselves — and yet we could still, in theory, be redeemed”

I have read it. The majority of the article is anti-brexit, with some anti-royalist thrown in for good measure. Trump gets as much (almost) print as the Yemen /Saudi crisis. Boyle then manages a small amount of print on climate change (with some anti-Trump thrown in). Hardly a review of the year is it. Just title it "Boyle's musings on Trump and Brexit". No mention of the Korean Leaders summits, calls for tighter gun controls in the U.S (considering how obsessed he is with their President), Serena Williams' outburst, the ongoing posturing of Russia, the death of Stephen Hawking, the collapse of the bridge in Genoa, the unveiling of statues for Fawcett and Pankhurst. No, he went for the easiest of subjects. It's lazy journalism.

It’s not journalism. It’s an op-ed from a comedian. All of things you mentioned are examples of things that happen every year. Brexit is a once in a lifetime sh@t show, the sitting US president is the worst ever, and both of those things are holding back real progress in climate change. But you’re right, the real story was Serena Williams. You forgot the World Cup btw

Some people get upset when you point out that the world they largely wanted turns out to be an awful bag of shyte. And yeah scandalous not to mention Williams' outburst in a game of tennis.

And - just a guess - the OP wouldn't be happy whatever Frankie had written, because it would have a bias he doesn't approve of.
