We could be back up to nine planets again on 07:38 - Jun 1 with 1134 views | StokieBlue | It's not the best article as it doesn't make it very clear this was actually found around another star. There still could be hope for a 9th planet but at the moment it's based purely on gravitational modelling: https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/hypothetical-planet-x/in-depth/ SB

They preyed on the insecurities of those still shaken to the core about Pluto's savage removal from planetary status and made us believe our primary school education might be relevant again. Ridiculous isn't it? As for your article it is another great example of how mathematics continues to be the Sherlock Holmes of academics and the leading solver of mysteries to this day. Euclid was really on to something back in the day.

The developers at Frontier (local company based in Cambridge- get in there Suffolk lads) have consistently promoted a love for mathematics and science in their top games. Many times elite dangerous has been tuned to emulate physics and mathematical models to the point you don't realise how sophisticated the environment is that they've constructed. Also in planet coaster they have put in simulated Gforce with painstaking precision rather than giving it an arbitrary scale of sorts. Programming was born from mathematics so it is wonderful to see that mathematics is still playing a major role in improving programming and not just programming being used to solve mathematical problems.

I have seen this flick before and it is quite fascinating the challenges they found themselves facing both internally and from society in some cases. Thankfully scientists and mathematicians today have an abundance of tools and models in place that can back up, or refute, a hypothesis quite quickly and clinically.

Exactly, you don't often find conspiracies targeting the provable mathematics but much more wooly concepts instead. On a similar vein, this is cool: https://www.cnet.com/news/nvidia-silences-moon-landing-conspiracy-theorists-with SB

I have seen that too and it is quite fascinating. I am quite thrilled there is a thriving dedication in IT for scientific discovery and not just financial gain (leave that to Electronic Arts) Nvidia, Microsoft, Intel (the list goes on) all do a tremendous amount of research, development and educating and it shows when projects like these come to light.
