He's basically saying he wants the healthy herd to become infected and build immunity, and for the herd to perceive they are already infected and consider not spreading to vulnerable people
School closures is seeing the herd getting closer to the vulnerable people such as Grandparents
It seems to have merit, significantly the smoothing of the infection impact on NHS, but seems a somewhat of a gamble
His analogy was he'd put all the vulnerable people into north Scotland, then let the herd of those who can build immunity in Kent, and after a time, bring them back together again
Fascinating, but somewhat bonkers.
Then on Newsnight the experts challenging it then contrast Italy and the fact their NHS is at breaking point. Concerning.
One lesson from this - we need the BBC, talk of its degradation should be kicked into the long grass. |  |

I think he was spot on theoretically and it made perfect sense. Very interesting to model epidemics with regards to the maths and the social aspects.

A lot of this turns on whether immunity can be built up. The common cold (another Coronavirus) has, after all, not been rendered extinct by everybody catching it. Reinfection is frequent. |  |

But the follow-up experts seem to have concerns on the herd immunity plan,in that if this hits the population to quickly, intensive care equipment and capacity will not cope

So my immediate thought would be that a lot of kids have pretty unhealthy parents never mind grandparents.
Watching QT it would appear that the government has indeed been going out of its way to allow the virus in....do they want a short sharp hit to the economy rather than a more drawn out affair I wonder? |  |

The thing is it's very hard to criticise Boris, regardless of what the rest of Europe are doing, if he is following the advise of his experts.

I think this has only been proven for other coronaviruses?
Also it doesn't affect direct transfer through fluids or coughing, it's literally it just lives a bit less time on surfaces.
