Article is a bit out of date but makes some interesting observations.

Above all, health experts say it’s crucial not to let panic take over our decision-making and rational thought processes. Otherwise, says BaÅŸoÄŸlu, “the price to pay” could be “much greater than the threat the virus poses.”

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
As someone who has lost family members in their "prime", I find it curious that a disease that is killing 85% over 70s, 91% of whom have underlying health conditions, is getting this response. For the (unhealthy) few, not the many? Not saying this is true, before anyone calls me a eugenics fan, but why are we as a species so soft about what is essentially natural selection?

Not sure on your stats, i thought the death rate was around 10% for the over 70s.

I think the answer to your second question is because it is all very real. I know of one person who died and am certainly worried for my father. And the prospect of an overrun NHS (as happened in Italy) is truly scary.

So whilst on the one hand it is indeed a form of natural selection, it is natural selection that is killing people we know and love. Which is scary indeed.

It's not natural selection...

Edit - should have done the research!

In many ways it is. Though that does not make it any more palatable.

I'm happy to stand corrected! :-)

I think this is actually a more interesting point:

"That includes staying informed without overdoing it, says UC Irvine’s Holman. “Too much media exposure, we know, can heighten one’s anxiety. You get what you need, and leave the rest.”

I think that has been played out on here some days.

Is the paragraph you quoted supposed to be a personal price or a price as a society as a whole? It doesn't seem clear.

I read it as a personal price. But could be wrong.

In which case he's probably right if one is in the cohort he is discussing.

And I agree about over doing the news etc. Doubly hard for those at home and not working.
