It's something I had almost forgotten about until I saw the avatar earlier; at the very least the name of Ken Saro-Wiwa was known to the world at the time.

Hard to demonstrate Shell's complicity conclusively though but I suspect that in a social media age their response would have been very ddifferent.

If you haven't already seen it there is a very good documentary film on Netflix called Virunga. It's about a group of park Rangers in a National Park of the same name as the title in Congo. It's not on the same scale as to what happened in Nigeria, but exposes the dark arts of a British oil company called Soco International. They are absolute b*stards, worth a watch.
