Indeed. Anyone who has had a ticket for the first game, was at the back of the queue for Burton?

I've sent them an email asking them to clarify the rules and not heard anything back yet.

"The ballot will have rules in place to ensure a fair distribution of access to games amongst the near 9,000 season ticket holders. Fans are therefore not guaranteed a ticket for the next game, but will receive a ticket ahead of anybody who was successful for the previous game in gaining access to another match." As per the book by Ben Goldacre, "I think You'll Find It's A Bit More Complicated Than That" :-)

There will never be an algorithm that is 100% fair in these sorts of cases, many of on here could have a go at writing the "rules' for such a ballot, for example, these are the basic rules for the Everton ballot, which I suspect are fairly standard - though the last sentence may not necessarily apply in ITFC's case! :-) "Ballot entrants will be prioritised to those who have attended the least number of games to ensure a fair spread of tickets among supporters. It is strongly advised that supporters enter the ballot for as many games as possible to maximise their chances of attending. Selective balloting will increase the risk of missing out on attending games - as demand is expected to outstrip supply for each ballot. "

I was unsuccesful for Saturday and did not apply for Burton. I'm not sure whether that makes me more likely to be picked for Boxing Day than those going Saturday or whether I will be back to level-pegging and only ahead of Burton attendees.

Presumably the algorithm goes something along the lines: Randomly select 2000 from all those who applied for Portsmouth. Now randomly select 2000 from all those who applied for Burton having already removed all those who previously got a ticket. Continue with that formula until you get to a figure that is fewer than 2000 and at that point randomly select from those who have had a ticket previously. Continue with the same formula starting with no prior tickets, then 1 and then 2 and so on. I am no algorithm writer but it doesn't seem that complex to me. Is there anything especially unfair about that method?
