Very sad news, he was a great writer and I have really enjoyed his books for many years, the big budget TV adaptation of the Night Manager was brilliantly done and was a great complement to a fantastic book. |  | | |

He lived in St Buryan for 40 years, and funded the clubhouse for the village football team where I played for a couple of years.
I never met him myself, but my Dad, who likes to write screenplays in his spare time, was invited over to his place for a drink when he was working at the local school about 20 years ago, which was a very nice gesture.
I'm not a big fiction reader so I've not read any of his books but by all accounts he was a good bloke. |  |
