Morning Keno. Liberation Day celebrations are a bit muted this year with not much going on in town. There is a cavalcade of old military vehicles around the island this afternoon.

Will do. Probably take the dog on the Common this morning, so will pass through your parish.

Leg is what it is, ie 21/2 longer than the other. I am attending what they call the “fall” clinic (real name balance clinic) once a week and doing lots of related exercises. Cheers

To be fair Keno got the words mixed up. The Guernsey national anthem is Sarnia Cherie, but it is early on a Sunday morning, so I’ll forgive him.

Is there a severe lack of patios in Guernsey then? Are only those who speak the local patois allowed patios?

I have a very nice patio, but a very limited knowledge of Guernsey patois. As with many virtually extinct languages, there is a minority determined to keep it alive.

There's a superiority inherent in the name, as patois means 'not for you'.

Probably the same goes for patios.

Incidentally if a New Zealander asks if you'd like to 'sit on his dick', he actually means the decking in his garden. It's an issue about how they pronounce the letter 'e'.

So, don't punch him, or indeed try to take him up on his apparent offer.

I lived in the Vale (just at the end of Port Soif Lane) roughly 93-98. Wonderful island, so friendly, stunning coastline, and I had a bit of a hand in several top-class beer festivals too!!!!!

No more than that.

In fact, were it not for broader strategic considerations, we could have just let the Red Army finish them off.

You are being rather dismissive of the contribution made by the Arctic convoys in supporting the Red Army through their most difficult days, at a huge cost to both Merchant and Royal Navy personnel.

And the contribution of the extra front in North Africa, and consequent denial of oil supplies to the Wehrmacht which would have significantly aided German efforts in Russia.

And the impact of RAF Bomber Command raids on German industrial centres.

And the importance of British Military Intelligence operations, and technological advances, supporting D Day.

Had the Luftwaffe won the Battle of Britain, rather than the Polish, Czech, English, Welsh, Scottish, Canadian, Indian and other nations' pilots who flew in the RAF, then Hitler could have taken the Soviet Union at his leisure.
