to add a semblence of authenticity to any transfer rumour they post.

Why not just go the whole hog and say Paul Cook was having a cuppa with me like we always do on a Tuesday. I said, 'Who are you going to sign next Paul?', he took a sip out of his paper cup (which is odd, because I had loads of china ones) and said, 'Lovely drop of Darjeeling this, our Mark!...Well, it's not 100% yet but we're going to be signing that lad Pigott from Wimbeldon. Don't tell anyone though!'

I think you miss the point. I'm saying anyone can say they have a source. And I would guess that the only sources most of the people on here who say 'my sources tell me' have, are HP, Heinz and Soy.
When you do actually have a source, you don't say it. Because that compromises them anyway to people in the know. Espeically on an internet site where you can just search all a member's posts and check out the history of their use of a source. Very easy to establish an identity then if you want to sack someone. People with sources don't feel the need to say they have a source to add weight to their 'leak' because they know it's true. [Post edited 8 Jun 2021 13:09]
