Party of family values.

They just don't say out loud what those values are!

Pronouns: He/Him/His. "Imagine being a heterosexual white male in Britain at this moment. How bad is that. Everything you say is racist, everything you say is homophobic. The Woke community have really f****d this country."
Poll: Selectamod

Obviously all parties will have people like this they slip through the net - the Hartlepool by election was caused by allegations of sexual misconduct against Mike Hill - but it does suggest that snap elections produce a worse quality of candidate. Obviously the allegation may have been made only recently, but if not you'd imagine a decent vetting system would suggest people with potentially dodgy histories shouldn't be selected. There are plenty of examples of 2017 and 2019 intake MPs with historical controversies (although not of a sexual nature, I should add) who were quickly selected by local constituency parties.

Sadly, in the current incarnation of the Conservative party(and right wing politics in general over the past decade) the fact that an awful lot of their candidates are openly dreadful individuals is a feature, not a bug.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I hate the Tories, but this is about one individual who has been charged with a terrible crime. Unless there were warning signs, or other allegations, that were ignored then it isn't the Tories' fault.

Of course Tory MPs were collectively comfortable with the idea of children going hungry and malnourished during school holidays, actively dismantled Local Authority educational support services so that children couldn't access eg educational psychologists for assessments re Special Needs, and are doing very little to help children living with their families in flats with the same cladding as Grenfell Tower, so they're not innocent of institutional child neglect.

They have, however, repeatedly voted down proposals to modernise sex education, which has a strong emphasis on respect and consent, so one could argue that they have quite the institutional culture which allows this kind of thing to fester,
