That bit of news had passed me by...

With apologies for source

Ugly concrete thing it may have been, but it was part of the Wembley experience, and I can't help thinking it's gentle slope being safer than steps when x amount of thousands of fans are leaving the stadium at they same time, especially at night.

I was there a few weeks ago. It just isn't the same without the long walkways ( which were removed so they could cram in yet more rabbit hutch flats). The stairs aren't quite as bad a safety hazard as I feared, but they will be a massive bottleneck, especially when leaving the stadium - they're pretty well designed to avoid major crushes, but it will only need a handful of very slow people to block the whole thing up.

I was there a few weeks ago for the league one playoff final (long story!) and it didn’t feel that different to my memories of old. Maybe new memories can be better? Undecided, I need to be seeing the Town for a genuine comparison, and my best memories were from inside the stadium (Reuser!).

On Wembley way fans, colours, chanting, flares were all evident on the day and still part of the experience. I don’t remember being able to buy a beer so easily (stiff markup on a kronenbourg) and box park looks like a good addition for a day with different planning.

Mind you, the stadium was at 10% capacity so not an entirely normal experience.

Incredibly sad at that - there'll never again be the chance for two sets of fans to have the same "2 ribbons of colour" experience that we did with Barnsley.

Sounds a lot less safe too - one trip by an elderly person ...

They can. It’s just at ground level.

Stairs are nice and wide, but the trip hazard/danger could be a problem. There were plenty of old bill and stewards marshalling fans when I was there, but it couldn’t compare with a sell out game with lively fans.

If I had mobility issues, I would probably look at car parks and other options. Saves any waiting for the tube too!
