Henderson might be back in now 22:31 - Jun 18 with 1101 views | chrismakin | Not that I dont appreciate the other young midfielders but sometimes you do need that bit of experience in the side. Someone who can dictate the play rather than looking at others to get things moving. Personally I'd drop Kane and Sterling. Go with Rashford uptop with Foden left and Grealish right.

To be fair, he would have had no service if he came on.

I didnt know that Norse Gods were available to play for England. Lol. Agree about Sterling....the emperor's new clothes have really faded now.

Lol, not sure what happened there. Corrected it, and learned a n Norse Gods name in the process it seems. Sterling was awesome a year or two ago, but seems to dither too much these days.

Feel sorry for Danny Ings and Patrick Bamford instead.

He's scored about 5 goals since Christmas hasn't he? He was rightly called up to the squad in October after a great start but his and Everton's form dropped big time in the second half of the season. I would have gone for Bamford myself, consistent goal scorer throughout the season and finished strongly with 3 goals from the final 4 fixtures.

I agree. Ings or Bamford a much better replacement for Kane than DCL. DCL is useful to throw on for the last 10 minutes as good in the air - but Ings and Bamford are much better all round footballers. Always thought the squad was a striker light - criminal when 26 are allowed. Admittedly I thought this would only be a problem if Kane got injured - I didn't envisage his lack of form over the first two games.

Henderson might be back in now on 10:10 - Jun 19 with 716 views | Bbmaj | The squad simply lacks the right kind of player due to the formation/style employed by Southgate. Henderson? I don’t relish that, but probably best option. Bellingham shows promise but if a 17 year old is the answer something isn’t entirely right. If key players aren’t on form, we haven’t got much else, and we have relied on a misfiring Sterling/Kane for too long. The two defensive midfielders who just pass back to CDs is bizarre. At least KP played more advanced and adventurously in game one, but what does Declan Rice offer, particularly when the defenders rarely fed him - no point of it just comes back! Mind you, a better touch from Sterling, mount, stones etc and we might have nicked one. I’d rather we were looking like a team who could score 4 or 5. Maybe we will see some imagination

Football is a game of fine margins of course - if Stones’ header or O’Donnell’s shot had gone in it would have been a very different game as either Scotland would have had to be more expansive or England would have had to throw caution to the wind. In the end both were satisfied with the point.

I think England were more satisfied/showed less ambition, the Scots showed a lot more desire to change the course of the game. But ultimately, a point helped both teams a little bit. Fine margins are often the deciding factor, but shouldn’t be when there is a gulf in rankings/ability. Their big man up front plays for QPR. Who have just taken the “failure” from our midfield. Should champions league players be able to defeat Championship ones? (I can still see Andre playing at top level, just needs to be surrounded by decent players with the right ethos. And to learn how to tackle).

Completely agree re Bamford, think he's the only other central striker who has real quality on the ball, and is more of a like for like replacement for Kane than any of the others. Really suprised that he didn't go. I'd definitely have Rashford and Grealish starting as well. [Post edited 19 Jun 2021 10:25]

Rashford’s been woeful for the last few months. I wouldn’t even have had him in the squad, let alone playing. Southgate replacing Kane with him two games in a row shows what an error he’s made.

Who are our fit on form strikers that we could swap Kane with? He clearly needs to be swapped

Bamford at least should be in the squad over Rashford - as it is I’d probably give Calvert-Lewin a run out. [Post edited 19 Jun 2021 10:36]

Henderson might be back in now on 10:51 - Jun 19 with 611 views | SixtoP | I'm sorry but just no... suggesting Rashford uptop is like saying play Jackson on his own up top.. It just doesn't work! The issue is the double pivot it's to cautious, Ideally it would be one of Rice/KP sitting with Mount + Henderson/Bellingham either side playing more box to box. Which in effect is what all the top four teams these players play for do. Additional to this Kane needs to stop trying to do the Spurs I play 10 and 9 which he has adopted this season. Just get in the box there is plenty of creative players around you.
