We were changing consultancy fees of up to £700-800/day about 20 years ago in an unfashionable line of work, so I'm not too surprised about that one.
I'd certainly be looking into the contracts that have been awarded to the company where her brother works though (he's a Director I think, not really sure - not paying too much attention to all this).
