Cook interview excellent - a key comment 08:07 - Jul 2 with 838 views | unstableblue | “We’ve created a platform that every player at this club, and that is every player, to be successful, BUT they have got to use that platform and learn and get better” It takes me back to benchgate when Cook noticed something in a game and passionately shared that with the likes of Jackson, tried to impart some knowledge that insight, and seemingly ignored/mocked. Now perhaps we all misinterpreted that video. But clearly this is a manager who demands a certain way, a respect, a dedication to his methods… it’s quite binary. Perhaps there remains an argument that some players of merit needed to feel more respected, arm round shoulder, pursuaded. That clearly is not the Cook way. But perhaps this is exactly what we need and have needed. Clarity of purpose and clear instruction and if you don’t follow you’re out or in the U23. Cool has certainly lost some of his humour in that interview, perhaps we’ll see less of that until the project clicks and the wins start coming in. It’s a big task with such a new squad and such new methods and new coaches. Need a bit of luck, a team like Morecombe not to play like it’s their cup final, and perhaps we’ll get that bounce. Exciting, and sounds like plenty more players incoming

Cook interview excellent - a key comment on 08:29 - Jul 2 with 706 views | chrismakin | The problem with an arm around the shoulder is that as a manager you cant do that during a game. Sure you can have a chat at HT but you've got 45 minutes either side where that player needs to be trusted to be able to give their all and to do what he does well. Football is full of highs and lows. If you go 0-1 down, those players need to react. If you have players who constantly need that guidance, you as a manager are then either taking your eye off another area of the pitch or if the captain is spending time trying to cuddle the player, he himself isnt concentrating on the task at hand. You may well have a point there Where my head was at is that perhaps under Lambert the training had become fairly orthodox and the tactical instructions of a certain level, and the attempt to continuously improve absent And therefore many players were stagnant in a rut Cook when he rants at a player with a new method or instruction he’s expected the player to take it on - the ‘platform’ is the technical, the fitness, and the tactical ideas from the manager It’s interesting that Evans (with a little smile, meaning it’s full on!) stated in interview that Cook gives very direct and clear instructions on what he wants you to do! All very exciting! But as stated we need a good start….

Cook interview excellent - a key comment on 09:31 - Jul 2 with 558 views | ElephantintheRoom | Its surely more a sign that Cook is a very limited manager and refuses to learn himself? Its all very well playing the headmaster, bully character IF you command some respect but different people respond to different approaches - and all Cook has done so far at Ipswich is make things considerably worse. IF things start to gel in the new season - well yes, maybe he can claim success - if they don't the mistakes in his controntational approach are obvious. Not many of the players in purdah will go unless they get a better offer - which means they will probably be here when Cook goes.... just as Nolan and Toto are suddenly back in favour.

Cook interview excellent - a key comment on 09:55 - Jul 2 with 480 views | ArnieM | Well I for one small very happy to have this “ limited” manager at this Club . His record is above any of the recent managers we’ve had that’s for sure . So if Cooks record is him bring “ limited”, I’m in !
