Busy day so not paid any attention. When I saw the score, I assumed India won the toss. While I agree with you, you can bet we'd have been something like 207-8 at the close. |  |

Not sure I really blame Root for batting, real problem is England but being good enough. First session was good and a little unfortunate but India have batted really well. It was pretty overcast first thing.
I’m hoping they bat less well today it i could have a long day ahead. Very glad to have a Test match at Lord’s though. | |

Kohli also said he would have bowled.. conditions looked good - didn't put enough balls in the right place early on, but credit to India, they did proper test match batting. Really good opening stand.

In first morning conditions like that we've seen England have the opposition 80-5 at lunch many times before....but that's usually with a better attack than Root had yesterday. If we'd had the Broad of old, Stokes and Woakes then I think the decision to bowl would be looking good now. But we had a very poor Curran and a non swinging Wood and some terrific batting so it didn't work out, but Anderson and Robinson bowled well. |  | | |
