Question Time / French covid app / State of the Nation 11:08 - Oct 1 with 797 viewsunstableblue

Did we discuss Question Time?

A majority of the audience had voted Leave and yet the anger at the state of the project, the state of the UK, the fuel crisis, the labour crisis, was palpable.

What struck is just how lost and worried Eustice looked?! a bit like Patel in the Commons a few weeks ago when the Tory backbencher started shouting 'Brexit' and one berated the government for £350,000 worth of fruit rotting on the tree at one of his constituents.

What is clear from the CBI and other trade bodies, and the Cobra chairman on QT last night, the government is just not listening to advice, is not tackling problems, or folding their arms.

The government are in disarray; and the problems as a result of Brexit, covid and global factors are only going to ramp up and get worse.

Despite the Labour panelist being by far the best panelist last night, and Starmer being far more competent and principled than Boris. The opposition are miles off being elected to remove this shambles.

So the question is how damaged will the country become, before the necessary change comes about?

And, can a leave centric Cabinet realise that the fundamentals of our new relationship with Europe are flawed and need open heart surgery.

As an exemplar I was with a French citizen yesterday, they showed me their Smart Phone Covid app, and how it seamlessly integrates with the European covid passport, how it is multi language, then explained the government plans for enforcement of covid passports (yes they have vaccine take-up challenges)...

... in short being outside Europe, being outside programmes such as the european covid passport, mean we are throwing up so much red tape and friction to our nearest market its ridiculous... one of the biggest Leave Lie

Eustice is a no-mark, who is completely out of his depth.

He would never be anywhere near a cabinet position if it were not for his views on one subject. (He was a UKIP candidate in a European Parliament election).

Having said that, he makes more sense than most of his colleagues, and he doesn't appear to be corrupt.

Wiki:

In May 2016, it was reported that Eustice was one of a number of Conservative MPs being investigated by police in the United Kingdom general election, 2015 party spending investigation, for allegedly spending more than the legal limit on constituency election campaign expenses.[37] In May 2017, the Crown Prosecution Service said that while there was evidence of inaccurate spending returns, it did not "meet the test" for further action.[38]

In August 2016, Eustice was one of two Conservative environment ministers who were accused by environmental campaigners of having a conflict of interest over receiving subsidies on their family businesses whilst being involved in developing the plans for the replacement system to the EU farming support.[39]

He was a UKIP candidate, he'll be corrupt.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

The government's approach is to deny there are any issues, and lay low. That will only work for so long. The crisis in farming will hit hard soon - even BBC are daring to report on the culling of animals today.
As for Brexiteers, well, this is the beginning of what they voted for. Plenty more pain for them to enjoy yet.
