At least back in the old days we didn't play in meaningless cups.... on 09:08 - Oct 5 with 747 views | monty_radio | Personally I've always felt miffed that we haven't managed to wangle "And we thrashed the Budgies and swept to glory in the Texaco Cup" into THAT song.

And lest we forget - not strictly a cup - but Town's only home defeat in European competition was to Port Vale in the Anglo Italian League

We posted on the Anglo Italian Cup last season- https://www.instagram.com/p/CIsdBIwDWtr/?utm_medium=copy_link https://www.instagram.com/p/CIsdTeHjEQa/?utm_medium=copy_link As for the Texaco Cup my feeling is this was probably a step above the Simod Cup etc and for our club it took on added significance as it does appear to be the beginning of the good times.

If you count the Anglo-Italian Cup as a 'European' competition, then you should also count the Texaco Cup as one. So that's another European Trophy to our name.

Nottingham Forest claim that defeating err...Orient in the 1976-77 Anglo Scottish Cup final helped ignite their season. They scraped into the 3rd promotion place in Brian Clough's THIRD season at the helm (let that sink in - he was no overnight success & his first year at Derby was very poor). Interestingly, it was Clough's first season at Forest reunited with Peter Taylor.
