New manager crossroads 20:30 - Dec 8 with 1268 viewsMullet

I think everything about ITFC is a relative unknown right now isn't it? We're still getting used to the idea of these new owners and the culture shock post-Evans.

But, while I would welcome anyone (Fat Sam, Arry and the like aside) it seems like there's two paths fans are expecting us to go down. I don't think Warnock is the right fit, it's a decade too late probably and this being his "one last job" doesn't strike me as the marriage of convenience that would really work beyond ensuring the players get a beasting, and a sense of retribution for us fans.

If we are going down the older head route I'd love too think we could get Pearson. He's got that relationship with Ashton which seems to be a big currency for the paymasters at the club. He's not making a massive jump down and it allows all parties to save a bit of face given Brizzle aren't doing a lot right now.

At this level with this squad he's probably the closest to Mick we could get, and he'd have enough about him to get us solid and to get us up, whilst leaving behind a platform for people coming in to build on in the second tier in the medium term.

Whilst Manning would be high on everyone's list, I think it's unlikely he would risk leaving MK for us no matter the romance or money pulling him. Hopefully he would, but the manager in that mould for me seems like Anthony Barry.

The Chelsea connection and network he'd have there to bring staff very different to the ones Cook had might be what modernises the last area of the club needing it. He's also going to have a team and structure more restrictive than Cook which seems to be what the owners want.

It's a bigger gamble, but arguably the type the new setup is more likely to take and take with greater due diligence too you'd hope. Plus he has a strand of continuity with the Cook players and you'd hope can gain their trust whilst providing a clean slate for everybody else at the club.

Our next manager appointment needs to come quickly by wkj 8 Dec 2021 7:50
After the reaction at the Valley and on here, it is obvious the wheels are well and truly off for the fans. Whilst I thought that the interim approach with McGreal was a good one at first, it is clear those players need a boss that they have to impress.

It doesn't mean we should take any manager going, it has to be a good appointment to fix this spiral, but the longer we go without a clear cut manager at the helm, the worse its going to get.

I know Ashton said the head coach approach is most likely, but I fundamentally disagree. We need a solid manager, with experience and the power to make tough decisions. I know many want Warnock, but I can't see that myself. We want someone with edge, not a sledgehammer.

Pretty much my stance on it. It has to be decisive and quick - as I really don't think the fans are too fussy about who we get, but rather the results we get.

There’s a divide between supporters and players. A gap that needs to be bridged. A wound that needs healing.

I’d like Dyer but there are obvious reasons that won’t happen. Hopefully his long term prognosis will be good.

Manning would be a hit with the majority of supporters. A unifying factor. A healing one. I don’t underestimate the value (indeed necessity) of that. But perhaps the yanks will double down on Evans’ big name for quick success strategy? I wonder if they see promotion this season more as a necessity than a wish.

Fishing in more unchartered waters, I wouldn’t mind seeing Carlos Corberan here (unlikely though).

We’ll know soon enough I guess. I genuinely don’t expect to see us in the Premiership again (during my time here anyway.)

Is there really a divide between fans and players? That seems dramatic to me. More than the usual divide when a team isn't playing well? Ignoring the moronic events of last night led by a bunch of pissed up twots.

Aren't we just being a bit sensitive. I don't think anything needs 'healing' to be honest. As soon as the team starts winning again the wound will be healed. Let's not start pretending us as football fans aren't the definition of fickle. We were talking about having this great connection with the players after winning 4-1 at Wycombe.

I don't think the players need to be got at quite so much to be honest, albeit I'll admit I didn't see last night. Whether you like it or not they've needed more time than we expected to become a proper team. There's no reason they can't do that, they just need a new voice and some confidence.

There is if we end up playing like last night. Saturday will be a huge game to gauge whats happening on that front. If "You're not fit to wear the shirt" chants start popping up at home, then yes, there is a divide.

Hmm. They were fit to wear the shirt a month or two ago though?

They weren't playing well under Cook. Is it really a surprise they didn't play well under a stand in manager?

I guess I'm saying I don't agree with those chants, usually sung by knobends in the SBRL.

Yes, I think you’re right here. Fans have been really patient with Cook right up until the Rotherham match and even that was low key moaning.

Last night was unpleasant but clearly there were loads there for the beer, and probably coke too, not a normal crowd.

Unlike you, I was there and I can assure you the booing and general discontent was NOT just led by a"bunch of pissed up twots" Perhaps if you had bothered to watch Town last night and actually been there you wouldn't be so defensive of a shower of a team that last night definitely were not fit to wear the shirt!

I don't doubt that, but the only ones genuinely creating a divide are those ones hurling OTT abuse. I hope they were pissed, because if they weren't it's even more embarrassing.

Sorry I had something else on.
