I’m not so sure, unless he comes in as ‘Technical Director’ or similar. I read an article when OGS was sacked that Phelan didn’t want to be assistant manager anymore as he wanted more control on recruitment, but the United board didn’t want that and OGS didn’t want him to leave so kept him on as an assistant and yet he hardly done any work on the training ground (it was McKenna and Carrick doing that). |  |

He’s a strange one. A lot of united fans think he’s really robbing a living there. Ole was pretty coy on the role Phelan played and generally avoided answering questions on him.
Rangnick seemed to suggest recently that Phelan isn’t at all involved in training. Not sure what he does do but he also didn’t get rave reviews from Hull when he tried to go in to management. Wouldn’t lose any sleep over him, I’m more excited by Pert, he’s very highly thought of. |  |
