Any TWTDers at this infamous Boxing Day game in 1968? on 14:14 - Dec 26 with 1596 views | soupytwist | Not there as I was only three days old at the time, but my mum says that she used to go out with Jefferson for a bit in the late 60s. Probably around the time he made his debut, as Derek is not my dad. I knew about the finding God later in life but, but not the drink problems. Hopefully my mum didn't see any of that and good to know he got over the alcoholism.
Any TWTDers at this infamous Boxing Day game in 1968? on 14:29 - Dec 26 with 1555 views | PJH | Yes, I was there. Derek Jefferson was very much a 'if it moves, kick it' sort of player-he also wore contact lenses but I am not sure that was the reason that he kicked someone up in the air. I think I watched one half of that game from Chrchmans and one from the North Stand because then you could walk right around the ground rather than the stands being independent of each other. David Webb has an interesting history involving us because he also played a whole game at Stamford Bridge as a goalkeeper. [Post edited 26 Dec 2021 14:30]

Possibly. I don't remember it snowing but it may well have been. It always seemed to snow at Christmas time in the 1960's and 1970's!

It could conceivably be argued that perhaps he proved to be. Yes, good to hear that DJ overcame his serious problems.

Hard as nails in an era when you had to be. No messing about. 168 appearances for us, he was a good solid player and that was important in those early Division One years. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

SBR sold Jefferson to Wolves in October 1972 for about £80k, which was a decent fee given that he never really established himself as a first team regular there. We also had Glen Keeley & John Peddelty coming through so we had enough cover at centre back.

Any TWTDers at this infamous Boxing Day game in 1968? on 13:37 - Dec 27 with 837 views | ElephantintheRoom | Yes - I vaguely remember the snow - and I certainly remember David Webb getting an unlikely hat trick - but I dont remember Chopper Jefferson getting sent off. As somebody who saw quite a lot of Jefferson he wasn't really dirty at all - couldnt really be compared to all the resident thugs of the day - Smith, Hunter, the entire Leeds team and Chopper Harris etc - he was what used to be euphemistically called 'uncompromising' and his clumsiness was also enhanced by profoundly poor eyesight. I think he saw the light and became a Jehova's witness . I remember a West Ham game which had quite a lot of snow - Mick Mills got the only goal with an orange ball in that one. And the only sending off from around that era I recall is Geoff Hurst rather bizarrely - in a Stoke game
