California heatwave likely to overwhelm energy supply in short term 07:53 - Sep 7 with 791 views | Steve_M | This is quite interesting, following recent discussions on UK energy prices. Both in highlighting that managing energy usage better is going to become essential for many reasons but also that climate change is going to make it far worse. Imagine having to tell people not to use tumble dryers in a heatwave though.

California heatwave likely to overwhelm energy supply in short term on 08:03 - Sep 7 with 725 views | NthQldITFC | So many people who superficially 'believe' in Climate Change are still in denial when it comes to challenges to the things that they are used to doing or think they have a 'right' to do. That's perhaps the most important place to challenge and encourage radical changes right now, not in the rabid growth/progress loons who want wealth for its own sake and refuse to see the evidence of coming catastrophe right in front of them. They are perhaps a dead loss and a dead weight. Believing in AGW, but just doing a bit of recycling or buying an electric car and thinking you can just go on converting energy like before will not save your children's futures.

Good job our new Government takes it seriously https://www.desmog.com/2022/09/05/analysis-new-uk-prime-minister-liz-trusss-link Meanwhile over on TalkTV we have people saying the UN is using "methods of the Nazis" on Climate Change. https://www.desmog.com/2022/08/24/talktvs-climate-expert-accused-un-of-using-naz It's such a shocking state of affairs.

Our new Energy minister doesn't believe in Climate Change and wants to ramp up oil and gas whilst cutting back on wind. More lovely stuff from the Tories. SB

Absolutely. Flying being the main example of that dissonance in behaviour. We've stopped flying unless absolutely necessary (and it hasn't been in 4-5 years now). Even though we're surrounded by colleagues who research climate change, most of them look at us like we've 2 heads when we say we won't use flights to go on holiday. Although there's a conference coming up in NZ soon that'll test the resolve!

California heatwave likely to overwhelm energy supply in short term on 09:28 - Sep 7 with 561 views | JakeITFC | It is a fascinating time to work in the industry, and I think what people haven’t got their heads around yet is that our energy consumption is likely to near enough double by 2050 (with the decarbonisation of heat and transport) in most of National grid’s future energy scenarios and so some of the problems we will experience this winter are not one-offs. National Grid are looking to procure volume from the demand side in a specific service this winter (I.e. households and businesses using less electricity at time of need) and that is a window into the kind of thinking that enables a net-zero grid.

I think that the one thing his promotion guarantees is much more wind.
