R I P Hilary Mantel 11:38 - Sep 23 with 759 views | WeWereZombies | Just been announced on the BBC website, she was only 70. Those books about Thomas Cromwell had me hooked, could hardly put them down.

Good grief. I suppose you do not believe people are gone until we bring up the bodies...

She was the absolute opposite of one dimensional 'action-packed' crap like Dan Brown etc. Just as with the likes of John Le Carre, she could write gripping prose where very little action happens and the story is all in the characterisations and implicit motives of the characters. I recently finished Bring Up The Bodies for the third time or so, and it's the sort of book that slows you down and takes you there and lets you smell the scenery and hear the background. Fantastic.
