Cambridge: On the Fly 17:36 - Oct 3 with 1068 viewsKropotkin123

Writing this as I travel to work, so please excuse the lack of fact-checking.

Who are Cambridge?
Cambridge United were founded in 1951 after Abbey United annexed Cambridge following years of being confined to a road. Digging through the "History" section of Wikipedia, in order to pass myself off as knowledgeable and insightful was fruitless. Though I did discover that James Brophy is the closest thing they've come to a bit of silverware.

For those of you who have been too lazy or ignorant to look at a map, Cambridge is part of East Anglia, and therefore a local rival. It was why they were celebrating like they'd just won a Brophy last season.

Up Top
Singing sensation Sam Smith is Cambridge's top scorer with 4 goals so far this season. He's... They are closely followed by Harvey Knibbs and Joe "I have the best surname in League One" Ironside who both have 3. Despite this, Ipswich reject, Jack Lankester (AKA: Lankaster, Lancaster, Lancashire) is their most prolific player with 1 goal in 199 mins.

In the Middle
Whilst Shilow Tracey has the most assists this season (3), Harvey Knibbs is currently winning the Goat Race, adding 2 assists to his 3 goals, making him the most productive player in terms of end product. Defensive midfielder Liam O'Kneel also has 2 assists.

At the Back
Cambridge aren't known for keeping it tight at the back. They've conceded the 5th most goals this season. Though Burton have conceded the most, and we only got one there, so we shouldn't take things for granted.

Playing style
Cambridge have been carving up defenses with their free-floating attacking football, garnering them rave reviews in the national newspapers and beyond... Well, in some universe, anyway.

In this one they've continued their dismal playing style and ranked 19th on Whoscored for their offensive play. They have the third worst ratio of short passes to long passes, opting to go long every 2.964705882 times. They have also played the fifth fewest short passes in the League. Entertaining stuff, I'm sure.

Despite this, 13 of their 14 goals have come from open play. So a long ball side, yes. But dependent on set plays, no. For context, only Ipswich (18), Plymouth (15), and Peterborough (14) have scored more from open play.

...I've arrived at work, so this is it.

I particularly liked this one:

"Despite this, Ipswich reject, Jack Lankester (AKA: Lankaster, Lancaster, Lancashire) is their most prolific player with 1 goal in 199 mins."

You'll say I'm crazy, but I only write this as I saw they had a player call Sam Smith. I mean what are the chances... 2.3m Smiths in England. Surely 30k of them are called Sam? 56m people in England. I make that a 1 in 1,867 chance.
