when teams come like Lincoln yesterday with a plan do we need to 'change the plan' a bit.
For instance if the 2 10's had started to push out wide it would would meant the midfield would have potentially opened up meaning Burns & Davis could have cut inside into that space.
I'm no master tactician but that does seem obvious.
Also Ive arranged for some equipment to go to Playfrd road that may help
Westlake described it well on the ifollow coverage. They had an extra man in defense and used them to double up on Chaplin & Harness to great effect. They could get really tight, often with 2 or 3 players pressing without leaving much in the way of gaps to exploit.
It left us with a spare man in defense who we didn't really utilise until KMc got them in for half time. Afterwards, Donacien was notably much wider, our CB's much more advanced, and we were able to create overloads using them effectively in midfield. We took a gamble late on leaving Woolf almost completely on his own with their striker, effectively defending our entire half on his own.
Unfortunately by HT we're already 1-0 down and dealing with a 10 man defence. I think KMc mentioned players needing to be smart enough to make adjustments in game where things arent going their way. I hope we'll be a bit smarter to those tactical shifts now we've encountered it. We can't afford to only turn up for 1 half of a football match.

Yep, a great pundit. I found myself getting slightly peeved yesterday by the ultra-positivity, though. I can't remember if it was Westlake or Glenn Wheeler but "Ipswich town are playing phenomenal football" when we're 1-0 down at home to Lincoln was a bit rich for me.

TBH though there were phases of play which were outstanding. Being 0-1 down doesn't mean we were awful.

It puts it into perspective. Previous losses to Lincoln under Mick and Lambert were terrible drab and ponderous performances. We never looked like threatening, looked devoid of ideas with nobody wanting to take responsibility. Yesterdays game was us piling on relentless pressure, carving out chance after chance and taking numerous shots on goal. At the end, the players were devastated. The same disappointing loss but two performances and two Ipswich Towns that are miles apart.

Our lack of wingers is a worry. There will be times like yesterday when we need them. The last 10 minutes or so we had Jackson one side and a left back and a winger playing inside left getting in each other's way on the other.
