at The Black Horse?

It's been my choice of pre-match pub for decades, but recently it has gone down hill big time.

They at least had one ale on tap today, which was better than last week, also short of lagers, and they have started serving pints in plastic glasses.

Pretty bollox alround

Changed hands for the 2nd time in recent years a few months ago.

Went in there today for the first time in a while and service was shocking, till kept crashing and as you say plastic cups and poring bottles into them as well, licence ts & cs must’ve changed as they’ve never had to do that before, ever.

Poor boy behind the boy fell down the cella hole whilst I was waiting as well!

I was at the bar when he fell down the hole too. That cellar door has been an accident waiting to happen, and today it happened. He was lucky not to be really badly hurt.

You weren’t the guy that pushed in front of me were you?

Yes always thought it was a bit dodgy. He did well to save himself! Carried on like a trooper although a bit shaken.

Dunno, were you on the phone? If so then yes, sorry I thought you were with the other guy at the bar.

Ha no that wasn’t me, schoolboy error to be on the phone at the bar.

Really! A chap was very badly hurt falling down that cellar hole a few years ago. I know it’s an old pub, but that opening is totally wrong for staff during opening hours.

the licensee has to pay for glasses for one thing, if its a permanent thing they might be trying to save money that way though usually the pubco forces you to buy them like it forces you to buy the beer.

if its just for the football, then its something the police added on the license, if theyre new tenants theyd have had to apply for a new license, and if the police had been called to attend the pub pre match to resolve a problem, or they believe the proximity to the ground makes it more likely they will be required to attend they can force you to use plastic glasses.

when Yates was still the Robert Ransome they fell foul on that, I cant remember if it was even due to a problem the police were called to on a football match day, or just an average friday/saturday night handbags thing (might even have been something at the takeaway van outside the pub), but they were forced to use plastic glasses from midday to 5pm when Town played at home on Saturdays as a result.

always seemed an odd move since you could order a glass bottle of wine no problem, but I guess they dont think the average football fan is that clever.

Does your last paragraph imply that whilst nobody was wearing trousers or underpants, at least that which was on display was well presented?

The plastic glass is a tick box exercise for health and safety purposes, I guess a bit like bottle top gate at PR. On the other hand who the hell can afford to pay over a fiver for a beer just to throw it on the ceiling?

If you’ve got to go in the cellar then no choice - some pubs have systems where a false door can sit on it when flap up
