Bone Marrow Donation 14:17 - Nov 11 with 991 views | Samuelowen88 | Has anyone here donated bone marrow before. I signed up to the Bone Marrow Register during a blood donation a few years ago and have been contacted this week saying that I am a match. More tests required before anything would happen, but have been sent all the info packs. I signed up, for the same reason I donate blood, imo it's the right thing to do, and I would want someone to do it if I was in need. But now i've read the info pack, i'm rather apprehensive, all seems a lot more serious than donating blood, potentially being out of action for a week or more amongst other things. At the same time, I have this mental image of some poor sod on their death bed somewhere in dire need of what I could potentially give them. Really big part of me wants to proceed (only 1/5 that I would be a full match), but not second guessing things. Anyone been in the same / similar position? Would it make me a bad person if I choose to not do it? TIA

I do remember the blood test being an ordeal - especially the second one - I don't like needles (or blood) - and I remember reading that if it went ahead I may need a couple of days off work. Was relieved and disappointed when I wasn't a good enough match. I wish you well. Its a great thing to do but will fully understand if you decide not to.

Bone Marrow Donation on 14:34 - Nov 11 with 942 views | jeera | It was always going to entail a bit more than donating blood! But well done for registering and getting to this stage - wonderful, selfless thing to do. I'm sure you're now thoroughly up to speed on your research but your post made me Google and have been reading this. Sounds like a stroll in the park bud: https://bethematch.org/transplant-basics/how-marrow-donation-works/myths-and-fac Whatever you choose to do is entirely up to you and don't feel pressured by anyone else. It's your body and it's fair to consider your own well-being too. Saying that, if you do go through with it you know you'll receive plenty of support. Good luck whatever happens next.

Bone Marrow Donation on 20:32 - Nov 11 with 824 views | itfc_bucks | I'm on the register and I'm scared witless about ever being a match. One of the few things that scare me even more is that one day I might need to be a recipient, or someone I love. If I'm ever called, whatever my concerns, I know I'll have to do it and I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I ever said no.

Totally understandable the dilemma you feel. You are already a life-saver by donating blood so well done, whatever your ultimate decision or non-decision as the case may turn out.
