It strikes me that this guy is one hell of a smart self promoter. He has conned the media into providing him with hugely valuable free publicity, presents as the champion of the downtrodden and yet the careful promotion works to enable the licensing of his graphic art work.
The whole “who is Banksy” thing is designed to this end. The media know who he is but of course they play the game. |  | | |  |

A very good artist.
A very savvy marketeer.
Someone who has consistently included strong messaging in his art.
Made a lot of money along the way, and why not. I think the media like him primarily because his pieces are very good and widely liked. | |

I don't understand why he insists on inconveniencing innocent she walls when he could be drawing on the walls of parliament. He's just going to turn people off by drawing on clean walls. |  |
