Reading the latest article on plans for the modernisation of the entire Portman Road site looks as though they are trying to create a "gateway" to Portman Road when approached from the station - ala Wembley Way. Think this is great news for the club and encouraging a bigger and younger fanbase (youth is the life blood of any club).

Not sure it's quite that and eventually there will be buildings there, but is going to be more open around that back of the stand. Given Ashton's comments, it's more for handling the away fans who will move into the Sir Alf lower, having them enter the stadium from the back of that stand. Which paves the way for better home fan circulation and segregation around the other three sides. |  | | |

They intend to replace the knocked down buildings, plenty of scope for new hospitality facilities , corporate and perhaps a pub / restaurant would be fine. Get fans spending on site. |  |

If you look at the plans, they are moving the entrance to the suite so it's to the side of the stand. I expect people in that section will get seats in the upper tier rather than the back three rows of the lower tier. | | | |

Google maps, coverage of Ipswich, has recently been updated. Shows the Travelodge being built and the corner of Sir Alf / Cobbold under reconstruction. Gives you an idea of the available space for development. | |

Hopefully, as per Ashtons comments it's to keep the away fans away from possible fan zone sites so they can be kept Ipswich/family friendly. I wouldn't be surprised if an away fans fan zone gets built on part of the staples site. | | | |
