More Christmas joy. on 08:51 - Dec 14 with 871 views | GlasgowBlue | The article highlights the massive increase in children suffering with mental health issues as a result of almost two years of disruption to social activity because if the pandemic lockdowns. As you know, my own daughter suffered massively as a result of that lack of social interaction during what was an important development period. It was predicted at the time but shouted down by several keyboard experts, but talk to anyone who works in education and they will to tell you the same story. There was excellent funding for business and the furlough scheme kept most people in work who would have otherwise lost their jobs, but the funding for mental health issues is pathetic and children are waiting far too long for the help they need. As with most things in healthcare, the roots of the current crisis in CAMHS largely boils down to over a decade of planned managed decline in NHS services themselves, coupled to wider cuts to local council funding and education, coupled to an openly hostile approach to the teaching profession itself. Covid, as with a lot of other healthcare(and indeed wider social) problems has merely served to accelerate them. A better structured, funded and valued health service would have been in a far better place to adapt to these stress factors. [Post edited 14 Dec 2022 9:28]

As you know, Junior is likely heading into this field of work....can't help but worry about her mental health despite her resilient nature.

I salute her bravery. I wouldn't go near a career in mental health if it paid three times as much right now.

Mental Health services are woefully underfunded and have been for some time. I swear many lives have been lost where intervention has just not happened in time

It's a mystery to me where that extra £350M a week is being spent.
