You have to wonder about the mental impact of the C**rlton 4-4 game 17:47 - Jan 14 with 1514 viewsIllinoisblue

So many points thrown away since then

Very good point. Very consistent with mistakes and weak mentality since then.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Made the same point recently. The number of games we've won since then has been so far off promotion form. I think it has really knocked their confidence.

Said the same today. We've looked pretty fragile since then.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

If 1 game changes a season then you have to question the character of the side.

What you need Is a bit of experience.

We left 2 of our experienced players out of the squad. And brought on a 19 year old, an up and down midfielder and a striker who's hadn't played a game for us.
For Jackson not to come on for burns.. what was the point of him on the bench?

15 points dropped from the winning positions. Loads of them in 90 mins or injury time.

But our defenders are sound and reliable aren't they?

All these dropped points from winning positions have hurt and had a mental impact on me let alone the players...

In the wrong sport then if they can't cope. Ffs. These are well paid sportsman. It's league 1. If they can't cope with football why are that the club?

Surely a strong mentality goes with the club slogan they point to all the time. Run towards adversity.

As I posted in another thread:

During which period we've been affected by a virus and had a number of players just coming back from injury.

Doubt it's all been down to the psychological shock of Charlton.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Weak excuse imo. Our squad is pretty strong and deep bar upfront.

Every club has injuries and sniffles.

Sure. But is that more extraordinary than blaming the (slight) dip in form on one game three months ago?

Let's not sit there trying to find excuses. On paper, we've got the best and most expensively assembled squad in the league.

Mentally they're weak. They're not capable of getting hold of the ball and playing it around with any confidence to see out a game.

If it's not mental, then you need to look at McKenna. What's he doing to influence these situations?

I don't disagree on that bit there is undoubtedly mental fragility.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

I think it is more mental - phlosophical, even - rather than down to personnel. We've concentrated so much on getting the attacking side to work that defending has suffered. We're not really set up to "see out games" in that sense and it doesn't always work when we try. So we need to score more goals to give ourselves a bigger cushion (and to demoralise the opposition).
