I view us as being most likely to end up in the playoffs. There is something to be said for making the next round of the cup, and having a winnable tie which would get us through to the quarter finals of the Cup for the first time in the memory of many fans.

The FA Cup is the most prestigious competition in which we remain, and not the least prestigious.

If we're just going to end up in the playoffs anyway, then the results you suggest are actually not so bad. 1-1 at Cambridge? Are we realistically gonna make the top 2?

I do appreciate that we drew 1-1 at Cambridge in 1992 and still went up as champions - I was there that day. But in the present context, when we realllly needed a win and we languish in 3rd - more likely to be overtaken by Derby (who have won their last FIVE in the league) than to overtake Plymouth or Wednesday, I just cannot see us making the top two.

I mean, we are in the BOTTOM half in the form tables for the last 4, 6 or 8 games, ffs. I'd take a cup run over a modicum of the hope that kills you.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we get the exact opposite results, beat Burnley and lose to Wednesday. Our so called 2nd string put in a considerably better performance last game v Burnley than our usual starting 11 have done for weeks

That's a very reasonable analysis.

Of course we can realistically make the the top two.

There are lots of games to go, we've got a bloody good squad, and three wins could change everything.

Performances and results won't just stay the same from now to May, just like performances and results haven't stayed the same between October and now.

I think the issue is that we are not on such poor form, we are talking a rapid and total turnaround in form to make the top two.

My heart says we can still make it. Go and smash Wednesday and take that form into the next fixtures and we are well in the mix. However, my head says it isn't going to happen. A shame. Broadhead and Clarke's debuts hinted at something good to come but their next match screamed that to expect the same level week in week out just is a hope too far.

I hope I am wrong. I hope we can go far in the FA Cup and reach the top two. However, I think we are heading into 5 days where hopes slip away, sadly.

I’d be surprised if we score against Burnley to be fair. We didn’t at our place and only got one at the weekend at Cambridge.
3-0 Burnley but unfortunately no win against Wednesday as it ends goalless.
I’m hoping for better but confidence isn’t great within the team.

there may be some logic to hoping Sheff Wed progress to meet Burnley. Another hard fixture they could do without, although a cup run does wonder for dressing room chemistry.

Things are getting bad if even your optimism has dropped!

But I think you’re more likely to be proven right than wrong. We have a very talented squad and manager - but something isn’t clicking at the moment. Apart from just pleading the innate quality of the players I’m seeing little reason to think we’re going to just snap out of this slump in form - it’s gone on for too long to be called a blip.

I’m quite sure it will come right in the end - but not in time for a top 2 finish this year. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m resigned to the PO’s now.
