"Department of Health and Social Care in England has removed 269,500 pallets of PPE from its stock" Thu 30 Mar 2023 21.13

"Last year, the Commons public accounts committee said the government had lost 75% of the £12bn it spent on PPE in the first year of the pandemic to inflated prices and kit that did not meet requirements — including £4bn of PPE that could not be used in the NHS."

Setting aside the money lost (they can always print more). It is the lives lost that is the real scandal. Medical staff who were forced to use bin liners instead of proper equipment

And why ?

Not only because the government had looked the other way when those with the right connections saw a chance, and took it, to fill their boots by flogging sub standard rubbish at inflated prices, which curiously did not happen elsewhere. But an enforced shortage of supplies.

Overseen by the liar who at first dismissed the pandemic as merely flu, then skived off from 5 COBRA meetings as it became apparent a pandemic was developing, and when it hit took 11 days holiday saying " Don't send me any red boxes as I won't read them"

The Cygnus Exercise * of a few years previous had outlined the shortage, as the government sought to and did run down emergency supplies.

This will no doubt all come out in the enquiry, meanwhile there will be no remembrance day for those who .... died for Britain. No day of mourning..... just a fat bank balance (offshore) for the pandemic profiteers

Been a long day for me. Too tired to vent my feelings on this at the mo.
Thanks Harry for keeping the corruption and profiteering in our minds.

Lest we forget.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Same for me OS and I’ve a funeral from hell to deal with tomorrow.

On an optimistic last post for a bit, I notice the U.K. are about to join the Asia-Pacific trade bloc known as Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

It will be presented as massive Brexit benefit and will be announced with lecterns, flags, smiles and teeth. Whoopee!! Bunting and celebrations while you try and get through to your non existent GP.

It is I think a good thing. But let’s be clear on this. According to the FT, it could improve U.K. by as much as 0.008% of GDP. Hurrah! So only the 3.992% of GDP lost by leaving the EU to go then! Yay…..

I'm a cynical old sod so you need to give me a bit of grace.

But when I see a title like Democratic Peoples Republic of North Korea I know it's not democratic or a republic, and it's definitely not for the benefit of the people.

So when I see Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership I'm thinking, it's none of those things.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Probably the largest and most obvious wealth transfer to the 1% from taxpayers that will ever be seen in this Country. Unsurprisingly, all they could think about was enriching themselves, at the cost of lives.

"£21bn of public money lost in fraud since COVID pandemic began and most will never be recovered"

https://news.sky.com/story/21bn-of-taxpayer-money-lost-in-fraud-by-government-si

Such a level of incompetence and fraud while the bloated one was PM

Are we really surprised ?

The cretin whose incompetence saw the needless deaths of tens of thousands (let the bodies pile up) through Covid
